2020: I teamed up with the Kauffman Foundation in Kansas City and a New York-based creative house, Digital Bodega to bring a workshop series to local high school students.
Program: Five students were selected from high schools in the Kansas City area and paired with mentors (local KC filmmakers) to learn the basics of creating a short film.
The students were tasked with completing a short original film about an educator or teacher of color who had positively impacted their lives. The films were then debuted at the annual AMPLIFY Conference held at the Kauffman Foundation.
This conference celebrates educators of colors and provides them a space to share their achievements and engage in dialogues about how they can better their schools.
All equipment (ie. cameras, zooms, microphones, lighting, and editing bays) were provided through DB and local KC studios and production companies.
2019: Assembled a team and participated in the annual One Night Stand Film competition, hosted by IFCKC.
Competition: Each team has ten hours to write, cast, film, and edit a short film to submit to the competition. All submissions were then viewed and the winner was selected by popular vote.
We opted for a comedy and ended up winning first place.
Role: I acted as script analyst, co-writer, and PA.
2018: Wrote and produced an original short screenplay for my BFA thesis.
Film: Not Everything is Black and White
This film explored racism in the classroom through the story of a young girl and her interaction with bullies. This story holds two questions at its focal point: Is racism a learned concept? And how do we teach children to cope as the recipients of racist actions and words, when we might not have experienced racism ourselves?
Roles: script analyst, screenwriter, producer
2017: Completed a summer internship with Amasia Entertainment.
Summary: I worked under Tracey Mercer, SVP of Television. I read scripts, completed script coverage, created a ‘look book’ for a scripted writer, displaying their television concept, and took notes during production meetings.
